Under the auspices of Prime Minister Saad El-Hariri, represented by Deputy Sami Fatfat, the Lebanese German University – LGU celebrated its 10th anniversary during its seventh commencement exercises, class 2018, at Eddé Sands in Jbeil on July 4th 2018.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Michael Reuss, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. German Embassy, Monseigneur Charbel Antoun representing Patriarch Bechara Boutros El-Rahi, a host of military, political, religious, and social figures, current and former deputies, representatives of ministers, political parties, unions and syndicates, NGOs, as well as several media figures and journalists, members of LGU Board of Trustees, LGU President Professor Samir Mattar, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs Mrs. Marianne Adaimi, Vice President for Development Dr. Pierre El-Khoury, deans and heads of the various faculties as well as the administrative and academic staff, and the students’ parents and friends.
Following the Lebanese and German national anthems, a short movie showing LGU’s evolution and achievements during the past 10 years was shown. Then President Mattar took the stage calling on the graduates to keep on developing their cognitive capacities and preserve the values that LGU has instilled in them. He also recalled late Dr. Adaimi, praising his efforts at advancing the University.
In turn, Dr. Alexander Najjar, President of LGU Board of Trustees, praised the various programs that have helped LGU gain recognition among well-established academic institutions.
Dr. Michael Reuss addressed the audience expressing his admiration at LGU’s fast evolution and noting that Lebanon, like Germany, is rich in young human resources and brains whose involvement in the country’s development will help advance it on all levels.
In turn, Deputy Fatfat congratulated the graduates noting that the Lebanese academic sector is responsible of the technical and technological development of the country. He also recalled late Dr. Adaimi who devoted his life to the health sector, adding that this year’s graduates are the pride of LGU and an added value to the Lebanese market.
At the end of the speeches, Dr. Alexander Najjar, President of the Board of Trustees, and Mrs. Marianne Adaimi, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, handed Deputy Fatfat and Dr. Reuss blazons in appreciation of their efforts. The graduates were then handed their diplomas by their respective deans. The event ended with a festive gala dinner.
