LGU students celebrate Christmas with families in need
As required by tradition and in line with their non-academic activities carried out throughout the year and full of benevolence during the holiday season, LGU students organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs a charity event meant to assist families in need.
The campaign was active throughout December 2015 in order to meet the urgent needs of these families in terms of food rations, furniture, medical care, and clothing. Accordingly, students, aided by a team of staff, prepared an elaborate dinner and provided for draw gifts and all that was needed to hold the dinner, the revenues of which would be allocated to purchase all that the families were in need of.
The dinner that was held on December 16, 2015 at LGU campus in Sahel Alma was attended by over 250 guests including students with their relatives and friends as well as faculty members, instructors, deans, and heads of departments. In a very festive atmosphere, student Peter Khoury inaugurated the dinner with popular tunes played on the violin. Mrs. Marianne Adaimi, Vice President of Administrative and Financial Affairs, thanked the students and LGU team for their efforts which contributed to the success of the event and the fulfillment of its objectives. In turn, the Lebanese diva, Graziella Seif, charmed the audience with her magical voice. The guests enjoyed the dinner that was animated by student Ayman Abou Haidar and DJ Elie Mattar while several guests won valuable prizes at the lottery draw.
The event carried on throughout December 21 when a group of students along with a number of administrative staff did a cleaning job to the home of one the families following the repair and restoration tasks they had undertaken on it while another group took the mothers to the hairdresser. December 22 was another important day as another group of students took the families shopping for their basic needs while the restored home was being furnished and equipped. In fact, the family was pleasantly surprised to enter a welcoming and newly decorated and furnished home. Moreover, other families received rations of food along with the needed medication.
LGU students and staff were praised for their efforts that led to the success of the event and for instilling a feeling of compassion towards the less fortunate and helping families feel the joy of the holiday season. It was indeed a Christmas to remember!
