Under the patronage of the Minister of Labor, H.E. Mr. Selim Jreisaty, represented by the General Director of the Ministry of Labor, Mr. Abdallah Razzouk, the Lebanese German University – LGU organized its Career Fair 2013 on May 14 and 15 at its Campus in Sahel Alma. The Fair aimed to assist students in establishing direct contact with different companies and organizations in order to find jobs that conform to their university majors. Various establishments were present to provide counsel to students on the diverse opportunities that are available.
The Fair was inaugurated on May 14 with a welcome word expressed by Dr. Faouzi Adaimi, LGU President, who stressed the importance of establishing a link between human resources and the job market so that employers could meet with potential job seekers and offer them positions that suit their capabilities.
In turn, Mr. Elias Assouad, President of the Lebanese German Business Council, urged students to take up jobs they have genuine interest in and to display a high degree of honesty, perseverance, and morality while at work in order to ensure enduring success for the careers they have chosen. Furthermore, he encouraged them to remain in their homeland so that Lebanon could benefit from their qualifications and talents.
Mr. Abdallah Razzouk reminded the audience of the unique status Lebanon enjoys on the geographic and human levels despite being at the heart of regional military and economic conflicts. He explained that Lebanon has always been a meeting point for cultural and scientific events for both East and West. He also spoke about the market urgent need for extensive data that would be of use for employers, employees, and the Ministry of Labor in the implementation of its policies. He went on to stress the importance of personal business initiatives and the role they play in helping the economy recover and the need for the government to set out effective strategies that would boost the economy and lead to full employment.
Many workshops were organized on May 15 to provide counsel to students to help them develop their skills and acquire a realistic image of the competitiveness of the labor market. Among the participants to the various topics discussed during the workshops were Dr. Paul Makhlouf, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Dr. Fouad Choueifaty, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Insurance, Mrs. Helen Semaha Nouwaihed, President of the Order of Nurses in Lebanon, Mrs. Claude Maroun, President of the Order of Physical Therapists in Lebanon, Mr. Nohad Abi Aad, Operations Manager at EMMS, Dr. Nazih El-Jor, Manager of Information Systems Group, Mr. Bassam Khoueiry, General Manager of Sanita, Mr. Miled Hadchiti, Personal Branding Coach at Nec Plus Ultra, Mr. Herbert Johannes Buckenhüskes, General Manager of Food Technology of the German Agricultural Society, and Mr. Maroun Gergess, Orientation Coordinator at Labora.
