History
The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences was first established in ISPM (Institut des Sciences Paramédicales) in the early 1970s, which explains the lengthy experience the Department has in this field. When LGU was founded in 2008, all TS programs were transferred to BS programs. With the help of dedicated faculty and staff members, the Department has evolved to become one of the best departments of Medical Laboratory Sciences in the country, and its national reputation is well established.
Description
A medical laboratory scientist or technician is a healthcare professional who performs biochemical, hematological, microbiological, immunologic, and cellular and molecular analyses on body fluids, such as blood, urine, sputum, cerebrospinal fluid as well as other specimens.
Currently, there is an increasing demand for skillful medical technicians both in Lebanon and the region, especially with the development of new tests and clinical techniques in clinical medicine and public health.
To be eligible to graduate with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences, a student must have satisfactorily completed 180 credits through a three-year program. All courses are taught in French. The program includes internships that prepare students for their practical career after graduation. This early introduction of professional practice provides students with skills which may lead to part-time employment before graduation and eventually to full-time employment after graduation.
Why choose LGU?
- No entrance exam is required. All students are given equal opportunity to enroll in our BS program.
- Students with TS diplomas are accepted.
- Students with special cases are accepted after their files are studied for the «equivalence of diplomas».

Students’ Testimonials
Rima EL HAJJ MOUSSA
Graduated in 2013
LGU has provided me with the tools necessary to face professional life. Notions learnt in class are realistic and close to the requirements of the labor market. Today, I am proud and entirely satisfied to have been part of LGU family.
It has also given me memories and friends I shall cherish for the rest of my life. It has opened my mind to new avenues in the academic world. I will be back very soon for my MS.
Anthony KHOUEIRY
Graduated in 2014
Studying at LGU provided several key elements and skills that I now use in my current position at HNDL which is affiliated to LGU. The numerous courses we took during our BS program prepared me well for my job in the hospital. I also had a great opportunity to learn German which is an important language.
My experience at LGU was not purely academic but revealed an amazing and well-rounded social life perspective. Overall, it has been an enriching experience.
